HDMI mirrored image too small on TV

hi, i have a dell inspiron 1525 laptop and a sharp aquos LC-42XD1E. i've mirrored the screen via a hdmi lead. the image and sound appear but the size is not full screen. my tv is 42 inch but i'd guess the size of the mirrored laptop display to be 32 inch. i've played about with the laptop display settings but no matter what i do i can't get the image size on the tv to increase. is this possible?
