hello all,
I've had a tv tuner card in my computer that I have been using as a dual tuner for QAM and analog channels out of the wall for quite some time (with media center on windows 7)...

I just recently upgraded my comcast service to add various channels I didn't have before, which requires me to use a set top box...

How do I connect the HD set top box to my PC???

here's what I did: connected component video to S-Video converter from set top box to tv tuner card... then used A/V audio cables to headphone jack converter from set top box to tv tuner card...

I go to windows media center, and it recognizes that I have a set top box connected, but it tells me to connect an IR RECEIVER??? huh?? anyway to bypass this?? did I do something wrong in my connections??

I assume once i set up the set top box to my PC, I could just use the remote comcast gave me to change channels etc.... so what's the deal with this IR RECEIVER gadget it's asking me to connect???

If your card has component video input (reg, green, and blue)...these would be better.

The IR Reciever should also have an IR Sender. The reciever is used to learn what signals are sent by what buttons on the remote that came with the box. The sender is used to change the channel on the box. I don't think there is a way around this in Windows Media Center. I know the Hauppauge "IR Blaser" is a nice unit...but I don't know if they sell it seperate from the cards.

thanks killerbug.

I ended up getting a Pinnacle remote for media center... comes with IR Blaster, and works out of the box with comcast HD receiver... setup required of course... (already tested)... it was 29.99.. This was the only item I could find anywhere that came with what I needed, without having to buy a new TV Tuner card (like the happauge).

Thanks for the help!
