I am trying to get a HTPC up and running, so that I may view recorded shows on any PC/TV in my house and get rid of my cable box. What I have now is multiple Win XP Pro machines, a Windows 7 Pro machine, with Win Media Center and a Win 2003 server and several copies of Vista if I wanted to upgrade my XP PC's to it, but I understand XP to be much better than Vista....
Right now I have most of my DVD collection ripped to H.D.'s in the .iso format and don't really want to change that as I can view them on my WMC machine as well as my other P.C.'s. My TV Tuner card is currently a HD HomeRun dual tuner card from silicondust, which for those that don't know plugs into my network and can be used on any PC with supporting software, such as WMC. Since it doesn't pick up all of my cable channels I am planning on getting the Prime version of this, which has 3-6 tuners and accepts a cable card allowing access to anything I currently get on my cable box.
Everything works fine on my Win7 PC, but I'd like to be able to watch shows that I record from one PC to another or pause on one PC and pick back up on another. I know they have extenders for WMC, but I don't really want to buy more hardware. Is there any good way to accomplish this? I've looked briefly at Beyond TV & Sage TV, but not sure they'll give me what I want either...well, I think Beyond TV might, if I buy their extender program, which I might do. Just want to insure whatever I do will work with my setup.
