Is there one that can play and read mp3 files staright from an external hard drive?

This one, under the "Features" tab, says it streams audio from USB memory. I guess that's what you're talking about.

There are a couple of lesser models, that say they stream audio from your PC.

Well I got most of my music on an external hard drive.I would like to plug into a stereo reciever/hometheater system...I just dont want to use my PC as the player...

it is,but from what I gather the from the info on that link you put up, It doesnt really hook straight up to it.It more or less streams it wirelessly from a server or PC, which I didnt want to do.I might be wrong but thats what I am thinking yes ? no?

Click on my link above, and scroll down and look under "Connectivity". The last two lines under that heading are:
Streaming Audio From PC
Streaming Audio From USB memory

If they were the same thing, I don't understand why they would list them separately.
Best thing to do is email Onkyo, and ask them. They should be able to settle it...........
