AV Receiver/ HiTB with AAC decoder : Any receommendation

Hello All,

Although being an audio lover, I am not entirely clear about the pros and cons of going for an AV Receiver v/s Home Theatre in a Box, due to their different market positioning by different companies. Some HiTBs can equally be viewed as AV Receivers only, or maybe I am wrong.

Either ways my question is that I currently have a Yamaha YHT-185 HiTB which is connected to PS3 and Network Media Tank Egreat EG-M34a via the Optical S/PDIF. Yamaha YHT-185 is a very basic entry level HiTB with the usual decoders for Dolby and DTS (not for all the HD like Dolby-EX and DTS-HD variants ).

Now if I stream via EG-34a any video in high definition 720i/p or 1080i/p then usually it is in MKV format and the audio is in AAC 5.1 or 7.1 channel with varied bit rates.

In EG-34a there are options to output the AAC audio as "Raw" or "PCM" . If i set the AAC audio output as Raw then their is no audio heard via the Yamaha YHT-185 (most probably since it does not have a decoder) . And if I set the AAC audio output as "PCM" then only 2 channel stereo sound is heard even when it is 5.1 in original file. Which in my understanding is downmixed to 2 channels.

So to truly enjoy the high definition movie files with AAC 5.1/7.1 audio tracks, I will appreciate if someone can recommend which AV Receivers / HiTB are equipped with AAC decoder.
