I had an STR-DH510 and the same thing happened to me, while listening to Neil Young, my receiver kicked off and went to protect mode. Even after unplugging the unit and leaving it unplugged for three months, I can plug it in now and it goes straight into protect mode, whith no speakers attached, no other components attached. So thinking this was my fault I bought a STR-DH520(700 watts), it did the exact same thing, so in order to get any big volume out of the reciver and not over heat it , I have to put a 20" box fan next to the receiver. Now we rock!!!!!!

This is a design flaw, Sony needs to install internal cooling fan to eliminate this fire hazard.
