My amp cuts out at moments of sudden increased volume. My test scene is the airplane takeoff in jurassic park 3. The roar of the planes engines make the amp cut out. Recently in Das Boat a loud sudden explosion popped it as well. When it pops, I see the above message.
If I keep it at a lower volume it never cuts out.
If I play my ipod through the amp at VERY LOUD levels, it does not cut out.
If my boys play Call of Duty at high volume (the game also generates sudden loud increases in volume) it does not shut down.
I have an older set of Take 5 Energy speakers (15w to 100W rms/8 Ohm) and an Energy subwoofer (matched set) which is connected to the amp via a single rca cable. My Amp (Yamaha HTR-5950) does not allow for speaker wire hook up to the sub woofer, and has Minimum RMS 110W for 5.0 surround sound.
Here is what I have tried.
Checked and re-checked polarity of all wires and for stray strands.
TRied playing the scene without the subwoofer and without the centre speaker, but it crashed both times.
Changed the Ohm setting on the amp from 8 to 6 and back again. Crashed.
Finally tried playing the dvd straight (no surround sound) and it DID NOT crash. Hmmm.
Had my brother put his meter on the take 5 speakers and got no reading at all. When I asked the tech at the store where I bought it, he said that was not right, and wanted me to bring in my speakers so he could check them, but they work fine the other 99.9% of the time.
Finally, the Amp sits on a sliding shelf that is open and has about 3 inches of clearance on top. Despite that, it gets quite HOT, for xbox and dvd.
I have perused the posted responses, but see nothing new that i could try.
Advice would be appreciated.
I apologize for also posting this on the dvd Ripping forum (NEWBIE) and will endeavour to remove it.
