Sky+ Swapping disk to a different Box

Hi,

My sky plus box died (no lights nothing)

I got a second hand box and swapped in the 160 gig disk from my failed box (there was a recording I wanted).

However my new box tells me sky+ functionality not currently available (it was before I swapped the disk).

Should I be able to access my recordings from the old box on the new box after swapping the disk or do I have to reformat the disk to get it to work on the new box ?
