I'm wanting to find a program which is free and simple to use. all i'm after is something that will enable me to pick which parts of a dvd i want to rip (not chapters just exact bits of my own choice) can anyone recommend such a programme? as ive tried downloading loads and they either A) don't work B) are full of virus's and C)turn out not to be free.
Any help would be great. Cheers guys.

I don't think you'll find a program that does it all in one step.First you need to use a good decrypter to get the movie to you hard drive, because of the encryption.DVDFab would be a good free one.

After that, there are many ways you can cut a portion of the video, depending on what format you want the output.
You van use DVD Shrink if you don't want to re-encode and loose some of the quality, or you can use something like Any Video Converter or Avidemux and convert the video segment to whatever format you want:
