im trying to convert a PAL dvd to a NTSC DVD. i have a movie stored on my hard drive [Friday the 13th part 5] in a PAL format and i want to know if there is a way to convert this file so it can be played on NTSC systems.

it was saved as a winrar file, after uncompression it becomes an image file.

can someone give me a simple crash course on how to convert if there is a way? thank you

One way is to reencode as NTSC but first the image will need extracting to the VIDEO_TS folder. I use the free portion of Isobuster, file>open image file, right click on VIDEO_TS at right, select extract (to wherever you choose - only takes minutes). DVD Flick is free or ConvertXtoDVD (payware-watermark in trial) will do the encoding, quality loss isn't noticeable if good to start with. Never had any luck with it but I've read that changing video attributes in VobBlanker can work too. If just for your use, some DVD players are region free, could be yours is, check into it in the manual or Google it.

i already have ConvertXtoDvd and yes it's for my own personal use and my dvd player does not support pal format. so i should start by using isobuster to convert my image file to Video_TS?

Just extract the VIDEO_TS with Isobuster and encode with ConvertXtoDVD (has always burned well but I use ImgBurn, free and better burner). Even my older version of ConvertXtoDVD with 1 pass of the video does an excellent job of the reencode. BTW, the thing about personal use was just in case you wanted to lend the DVD out, most wouldn't be able to play it if it stayed PAL.

Another method using freeware:

Save the title as one large VOB file, convert it to PAL using FAVC.

Run DVD Shrink.
'File' > 'Open disc image' to load the .iso
Click 'Edit' > 'Preferences' > 'Output files'
Uncheck 'Split VOB files....'
Click 'Backup' and save to a folder on the HDD.

Run FAVC.
Load the largest VOB file from the DVD Shrink output folder.
Select NTSC DVD Format.

You can optionally 'Open Imgburn' to burn the disk.

isobuster worked in converting the image file to video_ts. I'm a beginner when it comes to using IFOedit or VobBlanker. Do you know where i can go to learn more on how to use them properly so i can convert from pal to ntsc?

ive never used convertxdvd, just recently got it. how do you re-encode

Never used IfoEdit and been a while since I used VobBlanker, found it complicated with not many guides available, think attar is your go to person there. In ConvertXtoDVD just use the green + button to add the the first Video TS in the folder or any 1 Gig vob (check runtime, should add whole movie) and just convert and burn as usual.

That ensures that the title is saved as one large file.

Then click 'Backup' and it saves it to the folder you specify
