Hi

Can you please explain the best way to decrypt and rip DVD movies into high quality, full screen, 800 MB to 2G single file size, for playback on my computer with a 46 inch LCD Full HD screen?

I've noticed there are some excellent quality rips on the Net, and I would like to build up my own home movie collection.

Can you also please include your recommended "Media Player"?

I would really appreciate the guidance because I have been experimenting with different software, settings and media players for weeks. I can achieve great quality rips but with massive file sizes or sub standard rips with small file sizes, but can't find the solution for something in between. I'm going bald trying to solve this, I'd really appreciate your help.. Thanks

I use Media Player Classic, it's included in K-lite codec

DVD Rips if thats what you are suggesting aren't really DVD quality.
m-HD, 720p, or 1080p rips are the way to go.

Thanks for the reply ChubbyInc. You're right, I'm referring to DVD rips. I understand that they are all done in 720p resoltion? I've been reading a bunch of threads and what I can gather is that I need to use the h264 codec with an MP4 container, 720p resolution. I've found some software that seems to do this job quite nicely, called ImToo DVD Ripper. Paid $60 for it but its getting alll 4 jobs done in 1. Decrypting, ripping, converting and compressing. Im just playing around with the settings to find the best quality for a 7G DVD compressed to 2G... Any thoughts?

How do you fancy you get 720p out of a DVD resolution that is 480p(576i) max? All those 720p or 1080p rips that you see are Blu Ray rips, not from a DVD source.
As for the codec, yes, H.264(x.264) is the way to go. The container can be either mp4 or MKV.
I am not familiar with any Im2oo software, I don't know what settings are available.
HandBrake(free), is an excellent converter, and allows custom presets for the H.264 codecs to improve quality.

Regular DVD Movies coming on 480p same as your good back-up's.
You can upgrade the resolution view to 720p if you have a DVD Player than do so and also using a HDMI Cable (or better) to your HD TV combined.

Yeah, I know all about hardware "upconverting" if you have a player capable, however, he was talking about software resizing the resolution to 720p.
