I know how to rip dvd to avi i just wanted to know if there is a free software to convert a normal dvd to avi in high definintion 1080 or 720p please help.So basically
i want to know if it is possible if you have a high def graphics card in your pc to rip a normal dvd and the end result to be an avi file in high def 1080 or 720p.Please help

You can do it, but the quality is likely to be lacking.
You'd be scaling up 720*480 (or 720*576) to 1280*720,
and it usually results in fuzziness and lack of sharpness.

Virtualdub can do it, use DGINDEX to create a d2v project, code a simple Avisynth
script and open the script in Virtualdub.

Once it's in Virtualdub, you can resize and re-encode to your hearts content.

Thank u very much for that but i am not clued up in how to use dgindex then virtualdub. maybe you can tell me step by step what to do if you dont mind i usually use autogk to make my avi files

You can certainly try AutoGK. Will it allow you upsize by that amount ?
If so, use that.

I am not sure if autogk can output an avi in high def but i will check thanks for the help

Actually it can, I tried it myself last night - your problems may be over.
Go into "advanced" and set the width to 1280.
