Hello, all!

I've been doing a lot of research to try to find a good method for doing this and I haven't found anything that seems feasible.

I have the DVDs which I have ripped to my computer in AVI format with .sub/idx subtitles. The quality on the videos is perfect but unfortunately due to the way the DVDs are authored each DVD is ripped as one large file (generally in the 750mb to 1.7gb file size depending on the particular number of episodes per disc).

I'm looking for a good tool to split the AVI files into individual episodes and preserve the proper subtitles. I've found this tool ( http://www.nikse.dk/se/ ) which seems great but does not appear to split the actual video file itself, only to edit the subtitles.

Does anyone have any advice on how I could achieve this? I'm starting to run out of ideas and places to look.

Thank you in advance for any help you could give me on this matter!

You should split the DVD episodes off individually before converting.

Do you want permanent (burned in ) subtitles or subs that you can control with the remote on a standalone player.

When I do this with episode disks, I use different programs for each step.
It's a PITA the first time.

1 DVDFab HD decrypter to rip the complete disk to the HDD (no compression)

2 DVD Shrink to load the ripped files and 'Re-author' mode to select the episodes I want to keep - and choose the subtitle.

3 Still in DVD Shrink, 'Backup' the new compilation (again without compression) to a new folder.

4 AutoGK to convert to AVI.
Select a Title (that is, the .IFO file associated with an episode) from the new folder. If you want the subtitles to be burned in, select them at this time - don't select subtitles if you don't want permanent subs.

Add this job and select the next Title.
When ready, 'Start' to convert the episodes to AVI.

If you want switchable subs, you would use VobSubConfigure to open each episode from the folder output by DVD shrink and extract the subs as .idx and .sub files.

Rename the .idx and .sub files to have the same name as your AVI file.
When burned to disk the subtitles are selected using the remote.

Thanks for the reply!

The problem is that the DVDs I'm ripping do not have individual titles for individual episodes. Most DVDs do. These are just one title that combines all episodes into one massive title that is nearly 3 hours and contains 7 episodes. I tried to find all the different chapter breaks and do those all separately but it was so time consuming and difficult to pinpoint all the proper beginnings and endings that I elected just to rip the single titles from each disc.

It's okay having them as large files but I'd like to be able to split them all up into individual episodes if I can find an easy enough way of doing it.

Thanks again!

Split the episodes using Re-author mode and backup to a new folder.
Each new title will take it's subtitle with it.
The problem is that the subtitles retain their original times.
They have to be converted to the new absolute times for each section (they have to start from 0 seconds).
Using the likes of ReJig, demux the subtitle from each episode (each IFO file) - you will get a .sup file.
Open that sup file in SubTitleCreator and save as a .sub/.idx file.
The new files will have the times reset relative to the beginning of each clip/episode/title.
Convert your titles (saved from DVD shrink) using your favourite conversion program.
