which program is best to change DVD to avi?

I would like to know which program is the best and easiest to convert a tv series DVD to separate avi's with the subtitles separate.
I would like each episode converted to an avi and I would like the subtitles of each episode converted to .srt.
Could anyone tell me the best and most simple to use program available to accomplish this?
I would appreciate any help.
