12c508a chip in a ps2?

I was looking around other sites an stuff and I read that you can use one of these chips to run ps1 backups on a ps2 has anyone tried it? I know they work in all playstation 1s and even work in the wii to play backups without swapping.. ne info would be cool also maybe any diagrams or chip hex?
