HD Loader + 16:9 = black screen?

I just got HD Loader set up on my ps2 via a FMCB hacked memory card.
I have my ps2 hooked up to my HD tv via component cables. Whenever i change the system setting to 16:9 and try to load a game (the only game i have installed at the moment is Jak and Daxter) it just stays on a black screen. It works perfectly in 4:3 mode, but Jak and Daxter supports 16:9 so i'd like to use it.

Is there something im missing here?

Did you try changing it in the OPTIONS menu in Jak and Daxter

I've switched J&D to 16:9 but it still boots to black when the ps2 is on 16:9. The same happens with ICO too, so im certain its not the game.

I am not sure. I know on my HDTV I don't have to set anything

If I change the game in its own OPTIONS, then it works fine.

I don't change the option on the PS2 itself, but rather in the game options.

I believe the PS2 setting itself only works on some games. Other games require you to Hold Triangle plus X buttons while its loading
