I have a v10 ps2 with an unknown modchip which used to play all my ps2 backups from cdr- and dvdr- automatically with no problems.
It then suddenly refused to play any kind of disc at all, which led me to believe it was a problem with the laser. So i first tried cleaning the lens with rubbing alcohol which didn't solve the problem, so then decided i to have the laser replaced.

Now i have a brand new laser but it still will not load up any of my backups from cdr- or dvdr-, however it will load both my original ps1 and ps2 games.

Could fitting a new laser have somehow disabled/broken my modchip, or is there maybe something wrong with my board?

Any thoughts, suggestions or help with this would be greatly appreciated as it has me baffled and i have no idea what to do next to correct it.

Thanks.

it sounds like your ps2 is booting up the normal way and not through the modchip.there may be a simple solution not 100% sure as im not an expert on playstations.try a few google/afterdawn searches you are probably not the first one to have this problem.there are people on this forum that might have answers.

custom built gaming pc from early 2010,ps2 with 15 games all original,ps3 500gbs with 5 games all original, yamaha amp and 5.1channel surround sound speakers,46inch sony lcd smart tv.

I have searched but can't seem to find an answer, all similar topics i find always blame the laser, but i can rule that out after fitting a new one in my ps2.

Maybe i can remove the old chip and install a new one to fix it.
