Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I am having trouble getting Deus Ex -The Conspiracy to run from my PS2's hard drive. All of my other games run from the hard drive using HDAdvance, on my (fat) PS2, but Deus Ex keeps on returning to the main menu when it should load a new area. Can anyone suggest a fix for this, please? Deus Ex is my favourite PS2 game, and I really want to be able to run it from the hard drive, if possible.

Are you using HdAdvance 3.0 Retail disc or just using hdloader 8c or similar.
This game does work on the hdd. Maybe try a different loader or reinstalling the game.

Thanks for answering. I've used both HD ADvance 3.0 retail PAL version and MCBoot (which is HDLoader 8c, I think), on both the PAL and NTSC versions of Deus Ex on my PAL PS2.
The PAL version of Deus Ex will not load even the first level - when you try to start a game from the Deus EX menu you get the loading screen for a time, then the game reaturns to the Deus EX menu.
The NTSC version does work at first, but sometimes when loading a new level or a game save it returns to the Deus Ex menu, and the likelyhood of this occuring increases the further into the game you get - I am now at the point where I cannot get the game to load any new areas after I load my current game saves.
Can you suggest anything I can try please? And if you have the game working for you, then do you have the PAL or NTSC game and PAL or NTSC PS2, what loader do you use, do you have any of the MODE settings selected in the hard drive loader, etc? I'll try to duplicate your setup (although I don't have an NTSC PS2, of course).
Thanks for any answers.

I have the NTSC SLUS_201.11 game on an NTSC V7 PS2 hdd
I have heard the 8c does not work or some say it might.
Its been awhile since I used hdloader, so would have to test it later when I have some time ok
I will report back later for you which version I use.
Actually now I use the 'Open PS2 Loader' abbr: OPL
http://psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62141
You would have to wait for V0.7 release to be able to use, unless you are able to compile yourself use PS2DEV
I am pretty sure I tested with OPL v0.6 on USB and it worked, but I will verify for you.
I don't know when it will be released either, and they don't like people asking.

Ok I guess have to withdraw my statement that it works. I must have never fully loaded it, just to the New game screen.
On Sksapps.com hddloader compatibility list many say it works.
On Absolute Anime compatibility list only one person said it worked
http://www.absoluteanime.com/hdloader.html?page=d
I tried with hdloader8c, and 7e and it doesn't get past the loading screen once you choose your mode
It does however work on USB drive using Open PS2 loader
So you could just format a USB drive or Pen drive to FAT32
Then install Deus ex to the USB drive using USBUtility v2 - http://psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59785
Download the OPL loader v0.6 and launch it from your PS2 using uLe

I'd never heard of this before, but I found the file OpenPS2Loader_0.6.zip via google.com .
I've copied it to my USB card, and ran it from the MCBoot > ULaunchELF menu, and Open PS2 Loader loads up. The trouble is, when I move the icon to the HDD on Open PS2 Loader, I don't see any games listed, and pressing X selects nothing (though pressing X over the Settings or Exit icons work, so the program is reading my X button OK). How do I get Open PS2 Loader to see the contents of my hard drive please?
Also, if I can get Open PS2 Loader to load games from my hard drive, then how do I copy the .elf file from my USB stick to my memory card or preferably to my hard drive, so that I can use my USB stick for other things?
Sorry for so many questions, but I'm new to all of this, and I don't have much idea of what to do - and I do appreciate your time and help here.

Hopefully Deus Ex will work with 0.6, then I'll be happy. The only other game I have that won't work properly with the hard drive is Unreal Tournament, which works OK except for Assault mode (you always play on the attacking team in both halves of the round, instead of being the defender in the second half of the round). It would be a really nice bonus if Open PS2 Loader runs Unreal Tournament fully from the hard drive too, but I'm not really too bothered, as long as Deus Ex runs fully.

Sorry mate, I didn't see your second post before I clicked "Reply". I'll do what you suggest, and let you know if it works or if it develops the same fault as on the hard drive - works OK at first then gets very temperamental later on.
Regarding the different reports on whether or not it works from hard drive, I couldn't get it to work at all, using my PAL (original) copy, as it never went past the main menu screen, so someone suggested I try an NTSC version. I did, and this is the one that works OK to start with, but with every level gets more and more likely to return to the main menu instead of load correctly.
I'll let you know tomorrow how I get on (it's 1:33 here now, and I should have gone to bed an hour ago, got to get up for work at seven).

Yeah the OpenPS2Loader_0.6.zip only works from USB drive or from your PC using SMB over the Network LAN
But as soon as release 0.7 is ready, it will work from the IDE HDD as well. Then you don't need hdloader8c or at least can use either.
I realize this can be a lot of info to start with, so I will help you if you need it.
I think the Deus_ex should work fine on the USB with the OpenPS2Loader. I had played it for about an hour quite some time ago with no problems.

I've tried Deus Ex now (NTSC version only yet, running from my USB stick via Open PS2 Loader 0.6) and it works great! I can't guarantee that it will always work like this, as it might still fail later on, but it seems fine at the moment.
I do hope that I can soon play if from the hard drive (it'll load faster then, plus I won't be left effectively without a USB stick), but even if it never does, I'd be more than happy to play Deus Ex from the USB stick.
Thanks once again for all of your help, mate.

You welcome. I am glad its working for you on USB with Open PS2 Loader.
I know i haven't had any issues yet
I am running r242 of OPN PS2 Loader, so am able to also play off the Hdd
It is working fine so far. When the scene changes in the game, it just loads to the next stage. On my TV it looks like its gone for a sec, then comes right back.
It is an HDTV and sometimes I have issues with it detecting PAL instead of NTSC, lol
But at least on it I can play both regions without patching.
But anyway will let you know if I have issues, and will also let you know if and when OPN PS2 Loader v0.7 is released.
