Ok so like other people my SM DVD just stopped working out of nowhere, when my SM CD works 100%. Anyway, I've got some PS2 imports/backups I'd like to play, and today I came across CDLoader as a method to boot DVD backups/imports.

My problem lies in that I have a PAL television, and the games I want to play are Japanese/American. When my DVD SM did work, it used to lock the region to PAL and the games would play fine with no big black bars/horrible slowdown

Sadly, CDLoader won't let me choose a region, AFAIK. My backups now play with that horrible black ugly line on the bottom of the screen and slowdown

Just hoping someone cal enlighten me to how I can fix this problem, without purchasing new hardware

Look for 'Zoneloader' and try it... It is just like Cdloader

You can find it here on CD or DVD - link

I have an ELF version also if you want.

Ok I only have a blank CD so I assumed I needed the CD version of Zoneloader. I downloaded it and it burned fine but when I start it up and go to insert my import it just *tries* to boot and says not a valid ps2 disc. Although it boots my PAL PS2 games fine (I live in a PAL region)

Ok you have to swap it by Swap Method, not by EJECT.

Ok what do you mean at what stage? I assume after the Zoneloader has loaded up and stops spinning

I tried that, it's confusing. I use the 3 keys so what I do is move the front key to the side and it's the same as ejecting, technically.

The screen shows up asking me to choose a region, and says "Press X to boot CD/DVD. The zoneloader disc by now has stopped spinning. Like I said previous, I can at this moment put in a PAL game and it boots fine. Imports/backups, no go.

Hmmm by swap method you mean what? Forcully swapping (removing disc whilst it's spinning and place another disc on), or? Any elaboration would be greatly appreciated, I don't know what to do with this Zoneloader

Ok Swap Method, means don't remove any of the sensors. You are fooling the PS2.

When the disc has stopped spinning and the program is asking you to insert your game and choose Region

You just open your fliptop, so the PS2 doesn't know.

Swap the disc.

Then just Press X to start it.

Yeah see that's the problem I don't use a fliptop I use the 3 keys. So yeah I tried both ways I don't understand why it will boot up my PAL Final Fantasy X (I haven't tested other games yet), but not my USA/JAP imports

Yeah the Zoneloader disc stops spinning and the screen comes up saying insert CD/DVD. So I remove it, insert my import, press X, then it spins a bit and stops, then says, not a valid ps2 disc

I don't know what the hell is wrong

Yeah I am not sure.. I just tried it also and get the same error.

Maybe it has too be used in conjunction with the SM DVD, which you don't have..

You also probably need to use the Zoneloader DVD to play DVD games.
The CD would be for CD games.
I don't have one anymore either to test. I just have SM CD

I guess your only other option is too backup your import using imgburn.

Patch the NTSC game with a NTSC>PAL patcher and then burn it using imgburn.

I jsut edited my post above, as I was also remembering you probably need the Zoneloader DVD to play DVD backups.

There is a topic on it here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/403058

Also the instructions are posted right beside the links on sksapps.com
So it may not work with all games.
