Get SMD, load exploit, never have to use SMD again??

I'm wondering if this is possible. I would buy the Swap Magic Discs. Next, I would load a memory card or usb exploit (I have fat ps2 if that matters). Then I wouldn't have to use the SMDs every time I play a game. The exploit would be my softmod. I know I'm going to have the SMDs anyway, but it sounds like a lot of work, plus they could get scratched. Can anybody confirm if this theory is right?

Thanks. That pretty much answers my question.
I read about FreeMcBoot beforehand and was planning on using that. And I was going to use uLaunchElf, too.
That ESR... I found all the installation instructions, but I didn't see any description of what it does. What does that do?

Ok ESR is pretty much like swap Magic , but better.
The only difference is you need to patch your ISO images first with ESR disc patcher v24a
Then burn the ISO image with imgburn
If you go to the ESR public thread here - http://psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58441
The disc patcher can be found in attachments in that thread, and an explanation of ESR.

I ordered the Swap Magic discs.
I think I read enough to understand what to do.
I downloaded:
Free_McBootv1.7.rar
uLE v4.39.zip
ESR disc patcher GUI v0.24a.rar
ESR beta r9b.rar
First I install Free McBoot and uLaunchElf. Then, I install ESR. Then if I patch game images with ESR disc patcher, they will load once I launch ESR.

You pretty much have it, except the download package is fmcb 1.8b now
You will have uLe 4.39 in two places on the root of your USB drive.
Once - in the folder named SWAPMAGIC, all in uppercase, renamed to SWAPMAGIC.ELF
And then you will have it inside the INSTALL folder named as BOOT.ELF
So your USB drive would like below.
Basically you will launch your SM 3.6 DVD and have your USB drive in the PS2 already.
It will automatically load uLE
You will then using 'FILEBROWSER' in uLe, browse to /MASS which is your USB drive.
Then just launch the FREE_MCBOOT.ELF and do a Multi-Install, I always recommend
You can then configure your uLe also and save settings to your memory card.
uLe tutorial - just in case you want to see all what can be done with it.
And there you have it. If you have any questions once your Swap Magic comes, don't hesitate to ask.
