MGS2 Substance backup problem

All right so I have this NTSC copy of MGS2 Substance that I've been trying to play on my PAL PS2. Since I didn't get the game to play using the Zoneloader or Swap Magic ELFs I decided to backup the game and try booting it with ESR. So, this is what I did:

1. Made a backup of the MGS2 disc using Imgburn at 4x
2. Patched the image with the Toxic Dual Layer Patcher
3. Patched the image with the ESR Disc Patcher
4. Burned the image to a DVD+R DL Verbatim disc using Imgburn at 4x

When trying to boot the disc using ESR I just keep getting a black screen. I've noticed that alot of other people seem to be having similiar problems, is there any solution? Could the order in which i patch the image be the problem?

I never could get that too work with ESR, but it worked fine with memor32.
