Approximately one week ago, I bought Kingdom Hearts II FM+, a Flip Top, and Swap Magic 3.6. Well. I bought it a month ago, but it all just finally arrived, haha.
Anyway, I installed the flip top on my old fat PS2 no problem. For the first few days, the Swap Magic worked beautifully. I had little to no problems. Now, the DVD disc wont even load. I put it into the tray, go to the Browser screen (Memory Cards, etc.) and click the PS2 Disc Icon to load the swap magic program. Screen goes black. PS2 comes up with it's little "swhoosh' thing. The ps2 console thinks for a bit, and then sends me back to the memory card/CD screen. I don't think it's an error on my console's part. It loads the CD disc fine, and runs other games fine. The laser is still working, etc etc.
It's literally impossible that the disc is damaged beyond use. I opened it less than a week ago, and it's still in perfect condition (I did find tiny little scratches, but they were pretty insignificant).
Is there anything I can do to resolve the problem? Am I just doing something wrong when I load the disc? I already tried letting the game start itself (not use the browser/memory card screen method of starting a game) and got the same result.
I'm VERY hesitant on buying a new Swap Magic. I can if there's nothing else I can do. I've also seen things about using a Memory Card to load a program to supplement SM (I just read about it.. cant remember for the life of me what it was called). Can I use this to get it to work? I also read that using wax on the disc helps. Is this true?
I want to make it clear that I'm not using the SM for backups, just to play an import (In case that matters.) Either way, any help I could get on the matter would mean a lot to me. I just dropped a ton of money to get the SM and KHIIFM+ and having it break down on me after such a short period of time is a major disappointment.
EDIT: I got in-contact with a friend of mine who does console repairs, and he said that it was likely the lens. I'm fiddling with it, but I highly doubt it, as it was working fine not too long ago.
You can use esr r9b to play a backup of the import. Just use imgburn to create an ISO image
Patch the ISO with esr disc patcher .24a
Then burn the ISO with imgburn
I tried again this morning, and it worked. And it has since worked the other two times I've used it since then. I did mess with the laser a little bit, so I think it might have just been knocked around when I installed the fliptop cover.
I did try contacting my reseller and they actually said that they wont do exchanges. :\ Fortunately, I got it to work again.
I'll be sure to look into that fmcb 1.8 if it acts up again. Thanks for the info!
