I'm selling mine because it's a high maintenance machine and I can't be bothered with cleaning everything every few months.

Any way to simulate the experience (minus the bullshit) on the PS2?

Yes you can play NES games using Swap Magic.

You can load ELF files from a USB device using Swap Magic.

You can use FCEUltra to play NES games on PS2 - link

I never use it so can't help much there. I only play SNES or GBC on the PS2.

Other alternative is to get an emulator for you PC and play them.
