Hello, I am trying to get a ps1 game backup to work, but have been unsuccessful with everything that I have tried. I have burned it both as an iso and mds file. The game is Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace. the original disc that I am using is mega man 8 (black cd-r). I put in the game and turn on the system. Immediately after turning on the system I hold triangle to bring up the ps1 backup program. I wait until I can no longer hear the disc spinning (maybe 5-6 seconds) then open the flip tray and swap the discs (I have not case modded, but I have the slim which has the flip tray). I then press X but the thing just says again and again that this is not a psx disc!. Is it possible that I am burning the disc wrong or that I am doing the procedure wrong? Also I am using Alcohol 120%. If you use this method please tell me how long it normally takes before you swap discs and if you do anything different. Also I do not know, but maybe this is why it doesn't work, do I have to path the game? Thank you for any help.

If your using fmcb 1.8, just follow the first four steps in this post

http://my.afterdawn.com/smokyrain/blog_entry.cfm/3714

That method even works for my japan PS1 games. I don't need to use the armax 2.2

This works fine on my V14

;) that's what I was missing. I wasn't blocking the sensors and thought that I didn't need to do so with free mcboot. I have blocked the sensors but also realize that I do not even need my free mcboot memory card in to play ps1 backups. Using the disc swap with the memory card is faster. Thank you very much for your help, I know learned something new about free mcboot. That the guy who modded my ps2 lied to me ;( He had told me that you could play ps1 and ps2 backups without voiding your warranty. Oh well, what is done is done and I am playing ps1 backups in the end and happy.

I do have one question however. Are there any ps1 games that you know of that I may come across that will not work using this method? Also are there any negative repercussions that my occur with my ps2 from disabling the cd stopper that stops the cd from spinning inside the disc tray and covering the other sensors? And if there are are there any methods hat I can go about doing so as to avoid these problems. Thank you very much for all the help you have provided and just to say the obvious, THIS SITE IS AWESOME!!!

I don't know of any off hand that won't work with this method.

Blocking the sensors will not harm your PS2 in any way. I have had mine blocked for 3 years, almost 4 now and no problems.

What version PS2 do you have? It doesn't work on the FAT PS2, or that is all you will get is the PS1 logo.

If you have a V9 PS2, you can just use uLe to launch the PS1 disc.

I have a fat ps2 I think is v10, model# scph-30001

so that's probably the case but it worked with ps2 games though. well I think I have no other choice but to buy another gameshark then.

thanks for your help

No problem. PS2 backups will of course work with fmcb 1.8 or uLe

scph-30001 is a V4
V9/V10 is a SCPH - 50001
To find out if its a v9/v10 start up PS2 with no game in it, press triangle and check dvd driver version
dvd ver 3.00 = v9 & dvd ver 3.02 (U) = v10

So if you do have a V9 there is a method to use uLe to play PS1 backups.

I don't know if this works on your V4 or not.

Just go to Browser in your PS2 without a disc in.

Then hit eject and put a PS1 Original disc in.

Then using fliptop or slide tool, swap the disc for your PS1 backup.

Then highlight the disc in the browser, and press X on the controller.

It works on some PS2 but not all.

I've tried that already like 3 times and didn't work. I get exactly the same thing, just the freeze ps logo.

and I didn't like it either becuase when you swap disc the disc is still spinning and I can hear the laser still trying to access the disc.

I agree. I don't like that idea either. Just thought I would mention it.

I just use the fmcb 1.8 on my slim, and I also have Breaker Pro if I want to use it.
