soft mod with a hard mod xbox??

hi a have 2 xbox's - 1 Hardmodded (chipped) and the other is unmodded.

i have "formatted" my xbox before, so i know how to format a drive. but what i wanted to know is if i simply format the hard drive and upload the softmod files, will i be able to then put it in the other xbox, and use it as a softmod xbox?
i know that there are ways that are used to softmod, e.g. game hacks, font hacks etc... but i neither have the time nor the money to go get games, if i have everything else here that i need?

if this can be done can you please tell me were to get the files and i will tell you how i go.
