Warrenty on locked HDDs?

So I hooked up a sata hard drive to a sata to ide converter, and tried to use xboxhdm on it. It all seemed to work correctly, but when I put it in my xbox I got an error about my hard drive so I took it back to the pc. Now xboxhdm gives me the "no disk connected" error. It shows up in bios and other unlock tools that I have tried but the thing just won't unlock. The master pass didn't even unlock it.

Any suggestions?

It's still under warranty through wd. Anyone know if the warranty covers getting locked out of a hard drive? Should I make up some other reason for the exchange?
