I'm not sure whether there are home DVD players that can read rmvb format. if so, what DVD brand and model do you recommend me to purchase?

It's very doubtful.. it's not really an accepted or widely used video standard. What you should be looking for instead is to convert these nasty proprietary files into a more user friendly format.

This tool will convert them to avi (xvid/divx) so long as you change the file extension to .rm
