What I'm saying is that the method that many use still works. I just did this movie with no problems at all.
It also seems that many people are still not searching before posting.

99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.

2012 BACKUP SUCCESS

Use DVDFab 6.0.2.2 MainMovie and choose the right version... to make sure put it into your DVD player and play the movie to find the track.
Once backed up use VOBlanker and FixVTS to check for additional issues and back them up to DVD

DVDShrink will have no issues.

In order to get the right movie file you need to put the original DVD in your DVD player and watch the display for what files are being accessed during play back. So if you wish to try and back up main movie and special features you will need to play each file you want and list them.
Now that you have the list go into DVDFab and choose Main Movie or Customize of you want more than the movie. Make sure you have gone into the properties of DVDFab and TURN OFF Path Player. Select your files and click next in DVDFab to backup.

I hope this answered your inquiry?

I started this thread on its own because I didn't stop to think it might be movie specific.
Since my OP I tried ripping with ANYDVD. I have always just had it in the background of shrink. So it ripped fine but the file is 13.7 GB. If a dual disk holds 8.5 GB how do I get a 13.7 GB file? Shrink made it 7.2GB but there still remains the issue of missing foreign subtitles that are needed when foreigners are are speaking in an otherwise English soundtrack. Why would this happen, I did not delete anything in the rip.

This was my original post on the other thread:

I am trying to back up the movie 2012, It is on a DVD9 disk. I actually backed up movie only dividing it in half however, there are no subtitles and there are several places in the movie when we are directed to foreign lands and they speak the local language and we are give English subtitles. I did not eliminate any subtitles in the back up process.

So I decided t to back up the entire movie unshrunk and burn it to a dual disk which has worked well previously. but about 85 % into the backup, I get this error message:

DVD shrink encountered an error and can?t continue. Out of Memory. The Parameter is incorrect.

I specified compression at 10000 MG so this apparently is not what this error message is addressing.

Can anybody tell me how to proceed? Target directory has 47.7 G free space.

WIN XP
2 G RAM
3.1 single layer processor
computer?s about 5 years old

I used DvdFab and had absolutely no problems.

I backed up 2012 with a trial version of AnyDVD AND CloneDVD.

Just a week before I had a similar problem with South Park Season Thirteen that was released 03-16-2010.

Prior to Season Thirteen South Park, I was always able to backup my DVD's using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, sometimes using FixVTS when needed. DVD Decrypter was taking HOURS for one disc and the decrypted output folder was a huge 38GB.

That's when I started looking at Slysoft as an alternative, and in their AnyDVD forums, there's posts about other HUGE movies

Princess and the Frog
Space Buddies
Fantastic Mr Fox

JMO, to have a successful backup, you have to use BOTH AnyDVD and CloneDVD.

I guess I'm going to have to get a second job to purchase Slysoft--damn!
