I'm a beginner and trying to learn how to burn movies with my BD burner. I read the term encode with dvdshrink. Is that the same as ripping a disc to the hard drive?

I trying to burn a dvd disc, not a blu ray. The question remains the same whatever disc I'm using, dosen't it. I still have to go through the steps anyway. Like I said, I'm a beginner. Give me a break.

Well, you gave me a lot to digest with all that info. I'll work on it. Thank you. Can you be more direct on my next question please. In simple terms, can dvdshrink rip, encode and burn by itself.

DVD Shrink can rip DVDs - however, since development ceased on the software a number of years ago, it means that current DVD's with newer protection schemes are beyond it's capability:a different ripper should be used.
DVD Shrink doesn't encode - it 'transcodes' inasmuch as it removes those parts of the movie that it determines can be removed without compromising quality.
DVD Shrink will not burn a disk - it will utilise Nero, DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn (depending on which program is installed or selected) to automatically burn a disk if required.

I guess that explains why I have been unable to compress the movie I wanted to burn using a dvd+re disc. Is there another ripper that is able to help me? Thanks for your reply.
