Hello members, it's been a long time since i've had any issues with any backups ;thanks to all you in this forum.I purchased aliens in the attic, when i tried backing it up my burner would not recognize and just make that grinding noise so returned it for a new one.I did see a slight defect running along the dvd on both dvds, same results no read.I have the sonydru-710a latest firm backed up alot of the latest new releases with no probs,i think my burner is getting a little old and might not do good reading the dvd with defects? any input would be greatly appreciated.

So what are you using to remove the DRMs from the movie so the encoding program you are using can work its magic? Is it up-to-date (latest version). You need to give us all the info on what programs you are using.

Sounds like the program can't get past the encryptions on the disc. Did you let the reader try for a while, couple of minutes say? I'm assuming burner would not recognize the disc and not the blank. Did you ever get it ripped to HDD?

Your Burner is Old and if It's Making a Grinding Noise, I Would Just Replace the Drive (2005).

I did That Movie with Anydvd with no Problem.

Thanks for the reply! I use anydvd & clonedvd2 updated and dvdshrink at times just to switch programs. When i put the original in and leave it in the drive for a while it will make a grinding noise which its done in the past, but it wont open or read the disk so anydvd does not or cannot rip.I backed up star trek and pelham 123 no probs,i think its a batch of blemished marked dvds of that particular movie which its visible to see and the laser on my burner is not capable of reading it;was able to do it using external liteon with lightscribe burner. should i can the sony? thanx for the input

I wouldn't give up on the sony unless it fails to read in the future. Will it read other discs you have now? Some drives come upon one they can't read, especially when you say you see issues on the disc. Does the disc play?

Yes, disc plays fine.Like i mentioned done hunreds of backups with this burner, new realeases as well as older movies.I think what you said about that one disc that will come up at times and not read even though i'ii wipe it clean, sure enough i would still see that imperfection mark running down the disk, its happened before same exact way.I had to bum my freinds eternal liteon burner and went through without any probs, its also a lightscribe, maybe there better readers. But i,ll take your advice garmoon i'll hang on to my burner till it totally gives. thanx for the help
