Hi,

I have a strange issue that just appeared. I can no longer burn DVDs with Dvd shrink 3.2 and Nero 6/or Imgburn for that matter. DVD Shrink does it's job and when I get to the back up stage and burning, my pc locks up completely with 1% writing the "Lead-in" (I have about 15 coasters now). I have to power off the pc. Funny thing is that I can burn in safe mode, and I can burn small files to dvd or music to cds. I am using Verbatim DVD-r media (firt 20 or so from the pack burned without issue). I recently upgraded my Norton Internet security to 2010 and thought that the smart firewall was blocking it, so I shut it down and I still lock up. Are there any known processes that my be interfering or software? I am pretty sure it is software or a process or service as I can burn in safe mode. Thank you for your time.

Sorry, here are my system specs:

Windows XP Pro sp3 (32 bit)
Asus M4N98TD EVO
AMD Phenom II X4 965
eVGA GTX 9800+
Corsair XMS DDR3 13333 (2x 2GB)
PC Power & Cooling 640 W PSU
2 X LG GSA-H62N

I would save the output from DVD Shrink to a folder or img file.
Run ImgBurn. load the folder or image, insert a DVD-R and check 'Test mode'.

If it fails, remove only the Upper Class and Lower Class filters and retry.

Hi Attar, Thank you for the reply and detailed advice. I followed your instructions and got the same results with both tests. The first one, I picked a folder that I created with DVD Shrink and selected "test" and my PC locked up at the point where IMGBurn is "Writing LeadIn...". I restarted my PC (had to hold the power button as my pc was completely locked) and reviewed the Class Filters, I did not have an "Upper Class Filter", but I did remove a "Lower Class Filter". I performed the same test as before and had the same results. Thanks again, I really appreciate the assistance.

That was why I suggested removing the filters.

Any chance of a System Restore back to the point without problems?

Sticking with ImgBurn, I suggest the ImgBurn Forum for help - they are responsive and may have better insight as to why it writes in safe mode.

Hi,

My issue was resolved by updating my DVD's Firmware. Should have been one of the first things that I tried. Thank you to Attar, you were very helpful and I really appreciate the advice that you provided.

Thanks again,

Maybe, but the fact that it burned ok in Safe Mode was a head scratcher.
