Combine 2-DVD movie into one file?

I have a few movies that are 2-part DVDs... IOW, the movie is long and you have to swap disks. Is there a Tutorial or How-To on how to combine the two dvds into one file, not one dvd. I want to archive the 2-DVD movie on my HDD which serves my Apple TV. So bottom line is I'd like to stream the 2-dvd movies and file size isn't the issue because I don't intend to burn anything. I just want to end up with a folder with the movie's name, and within the folder there's be the typical Video_TS type files.

A Standard DVD can have a maximum of nine VTS_ files per Title - over nine and your into the next Title.
You might try ripping both Titles to separate folders then use VOBMerge to join them into one huge file.
As long as you don't hit the 4GB limit on a FAT32 HDD try playing it and see if it keeps sync etc.
Off course, this way you don't have a menu.
There is a caveat about joining VOB files from different Titles, but you would have to try it to see if there's a problem.

DVDFAB is another that can merge,the other option is to convert to say mkv or whatever containers so you end up with two files no need for compression if you don't want too,place em in an aptly named folder with 2 sub folders CD1 CD2 (actually you may be able to do it as is)then use XBMC you can get a mac version of xbmc & yep stream'n ain't an issue & it looks cool,both files will auto play from 1 folder to the next no need to select them individually

OK, so to answer the first question... this is not really about a Mac, although I have bot a Mac and a PC. The end result (hopefully) would be to take both DVDs, somehow merge them using the PC, and wind up with a file that can be processed by say, Handbrake (on the Mac) and converted into a MP4 file. The end file will simply reside on the external HDD that serves the AppleTV's streaming process. We don't even care if a "intermission" screen pops up, and then you have to click Play to move to the files from the 2nd DVD. But ideally, it would be great if it was somehow semi-seamless.
I have XMBC and BOXEE on the AppleTV already, and we do prefer using BOXEE's excellent menu/library system over XMBC's plain vanilla file listing method. I hope I have explained it properly, and thanks for any/all advice.

then you need to rip both to whatever .avi format you require FIRST .. then join them using avidemux or pretty much any video editing software.. seamless and no nonsense with multiple vobs or whatever.. only time you might run into problems is if you also want to keep subtitles intact.. attar knows about those..

I mention mkv containers as they can keep the dvd intact including menu,multi lang & subs as well as audio streams,not that i've attempted it yet there's no point it'll take too dam long for a single core cpu to do a convert since i'd be using compression on my dvd's,yeah anyway just something to keep in mind

Encoding should be at the end of the process. Use DVD2One's append mode to merge the 2 DVDs into one to get seamless playback, then encode with Handbrake.

So I could use AnyDVD/CloneDVD2 to make two groups of files, and then combine them using say... my mac's iMovie or something along those lines? I'm not interested in subtitles or menus. If I needed those, we have the original boxed DVDs. With an AppleTV/BOXEE you basically click on the movie icon and tell it to play; it starts right up without any menus or options. I've never used iMovie, but I have a friend who has used everything from Adobe Premiere to whatever. I'll have to write him and maybe he can give me the "idiot's guide to video editing" in a few paragraphs LOL. But again... I appreciate the advice here and keep it coming, I may learn something!

Anydvd is for ripping only,not sure why you'd need clonedvd since you have the raw video in the video folder unless you need removal of junk,nup seems what you want is fairly straight forward since i have fab as well i'd use it's merge function & then get it to convert to MP4 in one go,yeah anyway there's a stack of guides in the guide section that'll list how to & if there's any freebie software,as for video editing it's a breeze once you figure out what's junk & there's plenty of that on a dvd,it's sooo much better to rip to hdd so yo can get past the warnings etc & straight into the movie
