I used DVDfab 6.2.1.5(paid version) tonight, had problems at first. Disabled pathplayer and then selected ignore all read errors, then had no problems copying the main movie. I usually don't copy the extra features, so I don't know if it would work for the whole disc.
By the way, I didn't come up with method. Found this info elsewhere a couple of weeks ago when trying to copy other movies.

Originally posted by Accept: I'm using DVD Shrink 3.2 and it won't compress it enough, full disc compresses to 6,659 but I re-author it to just back up the movie and it only compresses it to 4,760. It won't let me lower the custom ratio lower than 99.2%, what's the trick here? Thanks.
You could try copying the 4760mb file to your HDD then re-shrink that file to disc. it worked for me on a diffrent movie.

Hi,
I also seem to be having trouble trying to burn this disc. I use DVD Shrink to "Open Disc" and when it comes to the "Back Up" step, it freezes within 13% of analyzing and an error message pops up, "Failed to read file 'D:\' The request cannot be performed because of an I/O device error." I try to back up my District 9 again the next day and it won't even "Open Disc" anymore, it just freezes again and comes up with he same message.
I had read earlier posts saying that Nero 9 may cause problems in regards to DVD Shrink so I uninstalled Nero 9. I too am running on Windows 7 Ultimate but I doubt that that is the problem. I would greatly apreciate anyone's help on what I can do to get past this.
Also, I had recently purchased Paranormal Activity and it also has had the same result. Only with this DVD, it comes with another message: "Not Enough Memory, Parameter Incorrect" or something or other. I'm not to big on computer software although I am familiar with computers, so step-by-step help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

HI I have read the posts in this thread but none has answered the question I need.
I can back up District 9 using anydvd and dvdshrink... thats no problem... But the alien subtitles are gone it is very frustrating. How do I make a succesfull backup using anydvd and dvdshrink that will have the alien subtitles intact? anyone?
and just to be clear.. I usualy just backup the main movie... no menus no extras.

If anybody cares. Here's how to rip D9 with DVD Decrypter:
Use IFO mode and, in the settings menu, select IFO Mode/Options/File Splitting to "By Layer"
Use VTS 01 & PGC 01 [1:52:13]
For Chapter One, deselect bad cells 1-6.
For Chapter 28, deselect cells 36-39
This will give you 2 vob files with all the audio and subtitle streams included.
The difficulty with re-encoding this movie is the subtitles.
When playing the movie normally, the subtitles stream is selectively turned on and off to provide translation of alien & foreign speech.
I haven't found a good way to rip the subtitle stream and import it to DivX Author, so I ended up keying it in manually.

Thank you very much guys. I just got District 9 and was having problems but re-shrinking it from the HDD worked beautifully. No problems. Just for the ones that have asked. AnyDVD and Shrink have worked for me for years with no problems. I have used Fab as well but Shrink is just the best for me. Thank you again for all the help.
