Hi, I'm new here, was hoping someone could help me with this problem.
I have been using dvdshrink for about a year now, and this is the first time that it has started to play up. After analazing is complete and I have selected my language options, the estimated time to complete has been between 48 and 3118 hours (I kid you not!), on one occassion I thought it might be a mistake and let it run, when I came back after 3 hours it was only 10% complete with 42 hours to go.
Like I said this only started to happen last night and shrink usually works really well for me, I have Anydvd and DVD Decrypter as well and they can rip the disc in under 30 mins but the files are still to large to burn to disc. I used to have DVD Fab but the trial ran out.
About the DVD Burner:
My burner is running in Ultra DMA mode 2 not PIO mode.
it has 22x writing speed.
BTW its not just any one certain disc it all my dvd's now.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

If you open Task Manager, is some other process hogging the CPU.

Thanks for that (BTW is that a go at my user name?)
I checked task manager but I can't see anything taking up to much of the cpu, the most is from user named SYSTEM @ 86,504k which I didnt think was much the rest are under 30,000K
Any other ideas?

DVD Shrink running at ~100% CPU is normal.
Quote: My burner is running in Ultra DMA mode 2 not PIO mode
I assumed that the DVD had been ripped, the burner was out of the picture and that it was the transcoding that was too long?
Is it possible the HDD is in PIO mode or fragmented.

I do apologize I don't much about computer's, well I know enough to get me in trouble. I know that the HDD is running in UDMA Mode 5, by fragmented, do you mean I have to do a Defrag in system tools?
Thanks for you help and patience.

Thanks for you help and patience. If you are not multitasking. All you have to do is re-boot the PC everytime Shrink is acting up, and also....every once in awhile, you can get a free program of DVD Fab.
Try:
http://72.55.191.8/download/DVDFab6220.Beta.exe

Thanks for your help,
First off, I have defraged my PC which has helped somewhat. Shrink will now do a dvd in a reasonable time unless I'm mulitasking where it does them in around 6 hours, which is still annoying, I would like to be able to mulitask while using shrink like I used to and have them done in no longer then 30 mins, without having to reboot the PC everytime.
I do admit to having an out dated PC compared to todays standards, but it still runs pretty good. what can I do to get shrink running even faster?
and thanks for the dvd fab beta sugestion, unfortunatly I had a previous copy of FAB and the trial expired so I can't get another copy.

TRY: A System Restore will help you alot too; to a date before you start experiansing this kind of problems.....
You may be download a program no to long ago that is interfering with it, or else.
Hope this help.

Also: Do not worry if your DVDFab expired or not....just download the new vertion on top of it....it will take it like a champ.
Good luck.

Hi. I am also having the same problems although my PC is not that old and my burner, Liteon iHAP422 is only a few months old with the latest firmware(VL18).
Yesterday morning I was able to burn 5 disks with no problems. I shut my PC down and went to work. When I got home from work and tried burning more disks, the rip/burn time seemed to have tripled.
The HD is running in DMA mode. I noticed that on the first primary IDE channel setting the CURRENT TRANSFER MODE is set to ULTRA DMA MODE 5 but the second primary IDE channel setting is set to PIO MODE which I cannot change. Is this normal?
I also defragged my HD and tried to do a system restore to yesterday morning but could not do a restore. I also uninstalled/reinstalled DVD shrink and IMG Burn. Rip/burn times are still crawling. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Thank you in advance.

PIO is the problem there.
What you need to do is open device manager, find the 2nd IDE that is in PIO mode and right click, select uninstall, then simply restart your PC, when you start back up, the PC will notice that you have found new hardware and will have reset the 2nd IDE back to DMA mode.
Problem fixed.
I personally have found that my 2nd IDE reverts back to PIO mode when I use shrink on bad DVD's that cause Cyclic Redundancy Errors(or CRC's). This might not be the case with everyone, but I have found that if I get one CRC then I stop shrink and use DVD Decrypter in ISO mode to Rip the disc then shrink it and it works. And it keeps me from having to uninstall my 2nd IDE (which is my burner) all he time.
Hope that answer is of some help.

Well the DVDFab I had, had a 30 day free trail then expired, it would not allow me to continue to use it, would not do DVD to DVD option, when I uninstalled this copy and downloaded the latest beta version, the same thing happened, it said that my trial had expired and I was required to pay for a full copy.
Can you please tell me how to get this free version that never expires?

Actually Numnuts, People have been very helpful here on this forum, and I appreicate everyones help. Except yours.
Here I am asking for help, explaining my problem, then wankers like you come along who just want to insult me because; 1) I'm not a nerd, 2) I have a girlfriend and 3) a life. You who I can only assume is married to your PC, live's in the basement of your mom's house and get your rocks of by acting all high and mighty, thinks you know everything. but in fact your just a lonely little boy... go on run to mommy, its breast feeding time.
