Hey guys, i've been using DVD Shrink for years now and have fallen into a problem.
Shrink goes through the normal process of backing up the disc, but when i try playing it back on a dvd player the content is just all over the place. It will start the movie half way through or towards the end, the front menu wont let me select any of the options, and subtitles that i'd removed when preparing to back up appear.
BUT.... if i play the dvd in my laptop it's fine.
I've deleted the program and then re installed it, but it's given me the same results. Anyone experienced this before and have any idea how i can fix it??

What program do you use to burn the disk from DVD Shrink.
Have you changed your usual brand of disk or purchased a new pack?
It sounds like a media problem.

I'm using Nero to burn the files. And as for the dvd's they're the same as i always use. I've just been through several other back ups i thought may also have suffered at this problem and found that about 10% are actually alright & the rest rubbish.

Try saving the output from DVD Shrink to a folder and burn the folder using Imgburn.
It's reckoned a better burning program than Nero.
For consistent quality, try Verbatim disks (except their 'Value Series' line).

Use DVDfab to bypass the copy protection, then files will be in order.

This does NOT seem to me to be a media problem, since it plays fine in a computer, but starts at the wrong chapter in a DVD player. I had the same problem, and I *think* I solved it by setting an option in DVD Shrink.
Choose Edit > Preferences, click the Output Files tab, and check the "Logical remapping of enabled streams" option. I've only tried this once, so I'm not ready to bet on it yet, but it did work for me, so it's worth a try.

I have also had the problem of having the content being all over the place when I put it in the DVD player. I have always used this product along w/ Nero with no problems until recently. I have tried changing the preferences but that hasn't worked either. PLEASE HELP

JAMES, I'm having the exact same problem that you had. How did you fix your problem?

Sorry i haven't actually had any time to investigate properly yet. BUT..... i have shrink on my PC (where the problem lies) and again on my laptop. What i did was load up the problem DVD's onto my laptop & shrink, and it re burns it all in the correct order.
On the PC i am using DVD Fab right now. Fingers crossed i'll have a fiddle this weekend and report back with the result.

I had the same problem years ago when I was using Nero + DVD Shrink. Ever since I switched to Imgburn, booktype to DVD-ROM, and burn at slowest speed, I've never had this problem again, whether burning ISO's or a DVD Folder. Go with IMGBurn, it's free and a lot more reliable than Nero (not free).

THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO, YOU NEED TO USE DVDFAB. ITS PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST WAY TO RIP THE DVDS. SECOND YOU NEED TO RIP ONLY THE MAIN MOVIE. ONCES IT LOADS UP LOOK FOR THE TIME WITH THE LONGEST TIME RUNNING. THAT IS USUALLY THE CORRECT ONE AND WILL PLAY THE MOVIE IN ORDER.

nah.. use the other options.. it makes you use the platinum free version for a few rips.. about a month.. then tries to trick you into buying the full version.. just use the other options.. can't remember.. gold or free?

One thing I learned to do a long time ago which has saved me making a lot of "coasters" was to invest in some DVD+RW discs. Just last night, I got careless and burned 4 different discs because I had watched several of the others and thought "surely they are all good rips."
BINGO...!
Got another "coaster" added to my small stack, because of my carelessness.
Just a suggestion.
Cheers,
Ric
