Hi Everyone,

I recently bought a new Computer with Windows 7 Home Premium as my Operating System.

My last O.S was X.P and I had no problems using DVD Shrink at all, but on burning a disc on my new p.c, I found the disc had no menu title and was jumping around everywhere and then repeating the chapter. I then burnt the same disc using Clone DVD 2 and no problems. I used Any Dvd with both programs too.

Does anyone know if Shrink is compatible with Windows 7, or perhaps I need to change a setting?

Thanks so much.

Elana.

To all you that dont get Dvd shrink to work in windows 7:
klick START,
Rught Click COMPUTER,
select Properties, go to Advanced System Settings,
then go to Performance... click on Settings,
and then to: Data Execution Prevention (DEP),
select: Turn on dep for all programs except those i select,
klick on the Add... button.. browse to the DVD shrink exe file.
an finaly: restart if told to, then it works for me.. hope it does for you to..

I knew there were a few postings in there Creaky.....just amazing at what you can find using the "Search AfterDawn Forums" function. And, I was in a rush....had a few other things to do, and that was I think second or third on the list.

Thanks for the reply.

I did as recommended and the dvd analysed and encoded fully with no reported errors.

The burnt disc would not play though, and was freezing and skipping chapters.

The blank media I used was Sony and Verbatim and appears to be fine.

So now what ? :o(

Sorry forgot to address that part of your problem, that'll teach me to post at silly o'clock :)

Is it just one particular movie ?. That said i'm not aware of any movies that AnyDVD can't handle and i don't use AnyDVD or Clone DVD 2 myself, but this chapter problem you describe does happen when it's a movie that DVDFab isn't able to properly cater for due to it needing an update. Maybe your AnyDVD is out of date ?

Hi Creaky one,

This will be my last post cause it's doing my head in and I'm sure doing yours in too.

My software is up to date. The latest development is that I now have to reinstall Dvd Shrink after attempting to encode a disc , with the Windows message - Dvd Shrink 3.2 has stopped working ( Windows can check online for a solution ) blah blah. I hate this new computer!

I'm thinking either a software conflict, virus, or a conspiracy ? :o)

Another way to look at it is whilst DVD Shrink is very good and everything, there's surely no need to use it when you already have Clone DVD 2 ?.. a cop out i know, but if Clone does the same thing then why not just use Clone ?.
It could just be that you need to enable compatibility (XP) for DVD Shrink, though you shouldn't have to do this as my DVD Shrink 'just works' under Win7...

Hate Clone. Large data discs come out pixelated. Shrink much better.

OzMiss,

Have you attempted to run the application through compatibility mode? To do so, right click on the program and select "Troubleshoot compatibility" from there you will need to follow the on screen prompts to put the application through compatibility mode.

For additional assistance and feedback, Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams.

Are you using Auto Updates for Windows ?, if so i'm wondering if that's got something to do with it...those Microsoft types won't like any of us running DVD Shrink type programs...

Yeah i'm up researching one of the implications of the Copenhagen Treaty, ie the US are about to declare Carbon Dioxide a dangerous pollutant; anyways, i have never used Auto Updates, i don't allow them on my machines. I'm not sure that's what's happened to your DVD Shrink as some of the regulars here do use Auto Updates.

Here's how you check if they're on or not ~

I vaguely recall a thread similar to this, i'll see if i can find it...

Message for all the users posting no problems with windows 7 a few questions.

1. what version of Windows 7 are you running?
2. Did you right click installer and choose run as administrator when you installed program?
3. Did any of you turn off DEP for dvdshrink.exe after installing.
4. How many of you have the compatibility mode set for windows xp sp3 and run as admin set for dvdshrink.exe?
5. How many of you just installed program and did no other modifications to the property settings for the program?

Can't remember, don't think so; either way Shrink always 'just runs', ie no messages/warnings from UAC

Time to give it away perhaps ? :o(

I am getting a message that reads as follows:
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Failed to read file D:\
Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

This only happens while copying select DVD's. Most of the time the copy is seamless and the end result perfect, with no breaks in the video presentation.

Can someone tell me what this error means, and hopefully offer a solution?

Cheers,
David
