I guess I did not use the best title in my first post. I am new to this.
After installing and removing Nero 9, both my DVDShrink and DVDCRYpter now take hours to do their magic, when it used to take minutes! I have NO OTHER programs running at this time, so I don't think its a resource issue.
When I tried to reinstall the Nero 7 Essentials that came with my Lightscribe burners, I get error messages tellin me a cabinet file is corrupt, so I can't even load the old Nero that DVDShrink used to burn DVD's. Two identical burners and two install disks both having the same corrupt file, I don't think so!
I have run the Nero cleaning tool from their web site many times and did a search for any Nero files and deleted what I could, but still no loading of Nero 7 and still all the other DVD programs crawl. I truly believe both of my problems are related to the Nero 9 f***up! DVDShrink worked wonderfully with Nero 7 essentials.
Does anyone with more experience (talent?) have any ideas what to do. It was suggested to re-format the hard drive and start from scratch, but I would like to avoid that if possible, for obvious reasons!

A big THANK YOU MUCH in advance to all who reply.

I'm pretty sure your DMA Mode has been disabled, this is Windows controlled and it doesn't matter what disc drive you put in. To make sure, go to:
'My Computer' or 'Computer', right click on the icon and select
'Properties', select
'Device Manager', select
'IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers' and select
'ATA Channel 0', right click on it to see if DMA is unchecked, if so, check it.
If nothing helps, then re-formatting your Hard Drive would be the best solution, not only does it help your related issues but also helps your system to run more efficiently because most of the unwanted junks/directory files has been thoroughly cleanse and removed.
Start fresh and remember: DVD Shrink only works with Nero 6 and 7.
But if I were you: I'd disable "Enable burning with Nero" under Shrink setup, and use 'ImgBurn'.
try cleaning out the registry...either with a cleaner or manually. Something might be caught up in there and preventing setup and running of the software. I would also restore to a working restore point.
