I left a .iso file in my dvd folder before a vacation. When I viewed it 3 weeks later it was grainy. I've noticed this with .wmv also. Why is this? Other than burning my backups right away, is there anything I can do while it's on my PC to stop from the loss?

Since it's digitial there is no quality degration over time.

Quality of video stored on your computer doesn't degrade with time. The only thing that could happen is that data maybe gets corrupted due to an error on your computer then it probably wouldn't even play.
