I'm trying to get an edited dvd into a single mp4 with subtitles. If I were converting to AVI I'd convert the whole thing and cut it using VirtualDubMod, but I don't have mp4 support for VirtualDubMod. I can use DVD Shrink in re-author mode to cut out the more violent parts of the movie I don't want the kids to see, but then I end up with several 'main movies'. MEGUI doesn't mind if I just rename the vobs so they form a single sequence, but then of course you lose the subtitles. Can anyone help?
IfoEdit can create new IFO files for a group of VOB files.
Normally, you would rename all of your separate "titles" from DVD Shrink thus:
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
etc.
The problem is, that the maximum number of VOB files allowed in a DVD is nine - and I'm not sure if IfoEdit would import more than nine.
Ah excellent. You wouldn't happen to have a guide handy for that sort of thing, would you? IFOEdit looks mighty complicated for a Noob like me... (I reckon I can keep the vobs below 9)
Notes I collected and modified from various sources.
Make a copy of your output from DVD Shrink and use it as your source.
In the output folder from DVD Shrink, discard all but the relevant .VOB files (discard IFO and BUP).
Note that a VOB with the numerical 0 (e.g. VTS_01_0.VOB) should also be discarded.
Rename the .VOB files 'VTS_01_1.VOB' in increasing numerical order.
Run IfoEdit, click 'Create IFOs'.
Accept the defaults and 'OK'
On the top pane, highlight VIDEO_TS.IFO then click 'Get VTS sectors'.
When process is finished, note that the top pane changes to show the old version on top and the new version below.
Highlight VTS_01_0.IFO (the last line of four, in the top pane) and click 'VOB Extras'.
The next screen appears:
Also, uncheck
[ ] Auto-copy Menu Files to destination
Click "OK", and when it's done click "Save".
It will offer to overwrite the IFO, say 'Yes'.
Now 'Quit'.
Load new files into DVD Shrink to verify that a valid DVD file structure has been created.
Test the new title by using VLC to navigate through the chapters.
The maximum number of VOB files in a DVD is nine.
If DVD Shrink created more than nine titles, the files can be renumbered to a three digit set (VTS_01_001.VOB in sequence) and VobEdit used to join them.
IfoEdit can then be used to create the IFO files.
Note that the output from IfoEdit, while it has the IFO files, do not retain the original names for the audio streams and subtitles.
Also the subtitles do not show the correct colours.
The audio and subtitle names are not really important (you can click through the audio or subtitles with the remote.
The subtitle colours can be reset using DvdSubEdit.
Ask when you get to that stage.
