hi,
is there a way to keep the menu function but remove the extras in the re author function when copying a dvd.

Not when using 'Re-author'.
You can optionally select 'Extras' on the left pane and uncheck their audio and subpics on the right.
Also on the right pane you can set their video compression from 'Automatic' to something else like 'Still Image'.

Probably better to use IfoEdit and VobBlanker if you want them off the DVD.

I think both DVDRemake and CloneDVD will do it easier - but I don't have either, so can't say.
