Succeeded with SPAM removed, full disc.
Title 15 and 46 are the real main movie.

No one else is having problems with Lost season 5 ?
Everytime I try to rip it with DVD shrink & AnyDVD, it gets to 99% complete and fails with "out of memory, incorrect parameter".
Also could not get a backup copy using DVD decryptor. File size is over 25 gig?? and fails with several different errors.
Have tried on multiple PC's with no luck.
Any suggestions ?

Lost season 5 disk 1 worked fine with anydvd and dvd shrink. Then I tried Disk 3. as with some other disks over time, I get a drive not ready error (when tyring to use anydvd to rip to the hard drive) or parameter incorrect error when using shrink. So I can't even start copying just the main movie as someone above said.

I'll use ripit4me and then dvd decrypter. then I get loads of errors and click ignore each time and get files that are KB in size in the end.

I also saw an app mentioned - Ideal DVD Copy. I installed the trial and with and without anydvd running, it says theres problems. The disk does not look scratched at all. It's only a few days old.

I had the same problem with season 4 - some disks copy fine, others balk (disk 1 and 3 from season 4). I even tried a friend's disk 1 and 3 with the same lack of success.

do they use different encryption on different disks in the set?

and I tried copying season 4 recently - so even the newest versions of anydvd can't work with some of season 4's disks? : (

I have a solution that seems to work so far... I used DVD Fab to rip the entire disc to my hd. Then I made an .iso file of the VIDEO_TS directory using Power ISO. Because DVD Decrypter doesn't seem to work with anything but optical media, I use Nero ImageDrive to mount the iso and rip it with DVD Decrypter just like a normal disc. The VOB files come off just fine. The only problem I'm running into is that the resulting VOB files have a two or three seconds of extra data at the beginning and I suspect they have even changed the aspect ratio at the beginning because if you convert these files using Auto GK, you'll get audio sync problems. I find that if I load them into Solveig MM Video Splitter and simply trim the beginning about 4 seconds that the audio is then in sync. I know this seems like a lot of steps but it does the job. The studios are getting trickier and trickier with their anti-"backup" solutions.

Happy Ripping!!!

I feel like an idiot, I think.

2 machines failed with AnyDVD and IdealDVDCopy. Ideal said the version I have 3.22 will work with Season 5 (and I was having problems with season 4 even nowadays - a long time after S4 came out). Meanwhile other movies we just got get backed up no problem (I'm typically ripping to the hard drive with anydvd and then using shrink to store a smaller version on the hard drive).

Anyway, I tried a 3rd machine who's DVD burner sees limited use (I had been burning my backups so these first 2 machines have burned 100+ disks each over time. But they have read other new disks with no problems recently. ANYWAY, this 3rd machine worked fine with season 5 disk 2. I swapped dvd drives and the failure followed the DVD drive!

So it's 2 DVD drives that are starting to 'fail' rather than the encryption method? or the encryption method pushes the limit of the drive and some can balk. Others (a Sony) worked OK. all 3 were made in 2006.

Funny - I remember Sony CD players were late to add the ability to play CD-Rs years ago. Understandable - they make the CDs so allowing CD-Rs to work could be undercutting CD sales. But here, it's a Sony drive that reads where others can't. But I think it's more that it's seen less use than these other 2.

So check your DVD drive - even if it works with most DVDs, if you have problems with some DVDs, it may be solved by trying another DVD drive.

All the best!
