Hi, there is a few problems i would like to discuss in this topic relating to copying and encoding and or burning dvd's. Hopefully you can help solve my issues that i been experiencing. I will start with encoding first.

First of all i will list the softwares i have been using.
Dvd shrink 3.2 (free)
Easy dvd shrink (payed)
Dvd decrypter (free)
Neru Ultimate edition 10 (payed)

This is a problem i have been running into rather frequently with copying/encoding dvd's some disks work well, well others don't know. I know its not a case of the disk being damaged because some of the dvds that i own are brand new. I also am aware that dvd's won't encode correctly if the bar at the top is in the red. So that wouldn't be part of the issue. I am just sorting out the things i know already so you can understand what is causing the issue. The software I use is "dvd shrink 3.2"

Link is here - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cd_dvd/copy_dvd/dvd_shrink.cfm

Usually what happens from time to time is after Analyzing the dvd, it will come up with an error that says "cyndical Rebundancy Check" I am not sure what that means, could you please explain to me exactly the terminology of what this error refers to and eloborate on it a bit, im all for learning new infrmoation so i can better diagnoze my problem.
Also some times the analyzing feature will work perfectly, but when i start the "back up" process with dvd shrink. Some times it will just stop alltogether. What is this indication of? It will come up with another error and just fail on me. This is less frequent though. Most of my problems begin in the intitual phaze of analyzing. I also have some major issues with burning as well and i will discuss that now.

The program i use to burn with is "dvd Decrypter"
Link is here - http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk/

I set up my dvd shrink so that the settings automatically opens up dvd decrypter for burning the image file once the encoding procedure is finished. I open the disk tray and take out the movie, replace it with the a blank dvd for copying. When it says its ready. By default the write speed is set to max but since my dvd burners can only support 8 or 16 times. I set it to any one of those. I then click on the "copy" icon button displayed in green on the bottom of the program. It then says Filing buffer, followed by "writing leadin" Then it comes up with a message that says "locking Volume for exclusive access" I dont know what that means, but when i try to click continue, it has an error or when i try to click on retry it just shows the same message. So my only option at that point is "ignore" so i click "ignore" and the burning process proceeds. How ever it does say that you may experiences errors during the initial burnign process which isnt a good thing and that might be my problem. There is no possible way to get rid of this "pop up message for exclusive access"

Back when i used this software along time ago, this never happend, so either its a setting i changed or they updated the program in such a way with a different feature. Anyway When the burning process writing data to the disk. Some times i will have an error that says "cannot find I/0 dvd device. with a "dead on arrival" message. I am assuming this is a hardware failure of my dvd drive. Because when i put in another dvd disk, and tried to burn the same image, after two attempts it actually worked that time. But it happens often and when the burning does fail it will come with another message that says.

Failed to set data for "
Failed to set data for "dvddecrytperPlayDvdmovieonArrival"
Do you have any idea what these error messages mean?

What ever the hell that means, i have no clue. I click on ok and i have to close about 6 or 7 boxes of this error message and then the program just closes.

Anyway these are my issues that im running into with these two software programs.

Recently i have tried a different approach and i bought easy dvd shrink instead.

Link is here - http://www.softpedia.com/get/CD-DVD-Tools/CD-DVD-Images-Utils/Easy-DVD-Shrink.shtml

Its a software that has alot more features i guess and i since i payed for it, its not a free version. How ever the same problems arised only different errors during the encoding process. This time the errors were stating something like "the volume is lock" you have to play the movie using a media player in order to unlock the video so you can proceed with the encoding" So i did that an wala, it finnaly started encoding. How ever the same disks i was having issues with on dvd shrink, still had problems with this new program, it would just stop instantly and not encode. Come up with error and the program would close out.

Now the dvds im trying to copy are the "lost tv" series box sets. This isnt the only dvd's i have trouble with im just using the lost tv series as an example. I manage to copy season 1 and 2 both with no problems what so ever. How ever there still is that "locking for exclusive access" box that appears every time before i burn a disk, that doesn't change but i tried the dvd disks in my player and they work perfectly, no problems. How ever, all of season 3, season 4, season 5 and season 6 all of the errors mentioned above with the acception of the bonus disks for season 5 and 6. Now i have no idea why the ENTIRE season doesn't encode, but the bonus disk does. Thats beyond me. In any case the errors that are most frequently are not the burning errors, but the encoding process. It usually fails.

So i ask you if you know any other alternative method to copying these dvd's with no problems. I know it can be done because my friend has copyed an entire collection of his dvds. He has never gotten a single error from anything. He uses different software then i do though.

So if you can i would like you to look at my issues, tell me the reasons why im having these issues and then give me some step by step instructions for another method or the "proper method of copying these dvd's so i dont' have all these errors or issues. I was almost thinking bout using Nero for burning instead of dvd drycpter, that might help with my burning issues. But as far as my encoding problems, i just dont know. I have tried varous other software out there including IMG burn, dvd shrink, dvd decrypter i used for encoding as well instead of just burning. Still they all have some type of problems with encoding the disks. I guess some of these disks just have extra protection and you have to break the CRE encryption on the disk and im not sure how to do that. If i can figure out a method for this, i could probably encode everything, and as far as my burning issues are, either its the software i dont have set right or its a hardware problem. But i dont think so because my dvd rom drive is fairly new, ive only had it for like a few weeks. I just recently bought a new one. Also im not sure if it would have anything to do with the disks, that might also be a factor concering burning. I use the "verbatim" dvd-R i never use +R's because ive noticed consistent problems with those dvds playing on standard universal dvd players. Per haps maybe you can also recommend me a good disk to use, such as like sony.

So if you can help me with this, set me on the right path to using the right "updated" software and fix all my problems i would really appreciate it, after all, you guys are the encoding experts, im the noobie in this situation and im sure you have ran into all sorts of problems like mine and found solutions. I'll be waiting for a reply from you hopefully soon, thank you!

Ill check out dvdFab then and see if i can break all those protections i think one of the major things is that with all those protections, some of the protections dvd shrink can't break.

Nope dvdFab didn't work either. Here is the error i got. Though i will say it actually went beyond the anylizing portion where as dvd shrink wouldn't even get to the encoding part of the process.

Here is the error i get.

F:\[LO4=0N=Nti_Des]

Error reading! Please choose what to do?

Retry, abort, ignore, ignore all.

It got to about 55% perfer the error.

I could not get to the Burning process. It failed on the "encoding process" This is the general information log i have on my encoding of the disk. How do you change the software to write to a blank disk after the encoding procedure is finished, i haven't figured that out yet. It says i have an image file on my desktop, but i think its curropted anyways cause it didn't finished. When i try to use neru it doesn't support the format to burn. Does this software have a built in burner as well?

Yeah thats a pretty straightforward guide and for the most part the dvd's seem to be working how ever volume 1 of season 4 of lost is not. I think because it has to much data on it. When i use dvd shrink it shows a visible red line indicating that you have to delete some data before encoding. In dvdFab how are you able to tell if the dvd is at its maximum and you have to delete data to free up space so it will encode to fit on the disk.

In Shrink Untick any Languages you Don't Need Like French, Spanish, Portugese...

In DFab At The Bottom There is An Option Box (DVD 9 or DVD 5.) Set It On DVD 5.

Or You Might Want to Try The Split Option That Breaks A DVD Onto Two Single Layer Disc.
Or Use The Customize Option.

Bit of useless info
DVDFAB Has it's own burning engine & works pretty good so if you split a dvd (splitting works fine also)use dvdfab to burn if you find nero balks at burning the split,in dvdfab use settings to set write speed etc you can also set size of file on dvd5 from the std 4300 to 4475 or higher

Ok here is the problems im facing, i noticed after burning alot of these dvds, that the quality is not that great. Under the option i click dvd5 and then "full disk" I notice t hat next to the dvd5 listing, it says something like "Quality: 48% 7.856 GB > 4300 MB. usually even during this process the dvds do work, how i just recently ran into a season of lost which is the final season of dvds, this is what it shows. "Quality: 19% 21.711 > 4300 Mb" When i tried to encode this, it took a god forsaken long time, finally when i tried to burn it, it failed. I think the quality has something to do with that and i haven't been able to actually encode or burn a disk with a 100% quality or any where close. Is there any way to fix this?

Which settings should i change to get the best possible quality and i only have single layer dvds, both sony and Verbatim Dvd-R. The dvd's im encoding are not blu ray either, there all dvd's. But for some strange reason all of the lost season 6 dvd's are much higher in GB.

I love this program because it can break all the encryptions and i have no problems with that, but honestly dvd shrink the original 3.2 worked better for encoding movies and it retained its original 720p resolution where as this program degrades the quality substantially.

Now if i choose to copy a dvd with only the movie it says 100% quality, but i want to include all the extra's, the subtitles and everything just like a normal formatted dvd.

I'm having trouble using DVD Shrink 3.2 to copy an old disk called "Last Waltz." I'm copying to a 4.7 disk, so I've set DVD Sh for that size. I've got lots of Nero "pieces" installed on my computer, including Nero Vision. (I have WinXP.), so I don't know which Nero DVD Shr is using to burn the copy.

I'm using "Full Disk," set at 49 per cent. It SEEMS to go through the "Analyzing" and "Encoding" processes just fine.

But it's not playing correctly on my DVD player. The sound and picture look okay, but it starts somewhere in the middle of the movie, and won't go to either Menu. Fast forwarding just causes it to pause and jump around.

I must be doing something wrong, but I have no idea where to go from here. Thanks in advance for any help with this.
