Check that the firmware is up to date.
Make sure that you are using good media - 'Verbatim' and 'Taiyo-Yuden' are known to be reliable.

I am using shrink and nero together and never had any problems what so ever. as well using sony dvd-R which I never had any problems before this is a first time for me.

How do I know if my firmware is up do date, I am not very computer savvy. as well the media that you are talking about? do you know what kind of burner I have? it is in my mac desktop but I am sure I can get it.

This has never happened before so its strange to me??? thanks

There is a Mac specific forum at Afterdawn - I don't know how active it is .
I don't have a Mac - so I can't offer advice there.

I assume that Nero produced a log for the failed burn.
On a PC, the log lists the burner model number and the current firmware.

(If you have problems reading it, you can post the text file using copy/paste.)

A Calibration Error can be generated when the burner cannot estimate the amount of laser power required to burn the particular disk - or, G_d forbid, the laser is shot.

The name on the disk package is not necessarily the same as the actual manufacturers ID code (which is on the blank disk)that the burner uses to calibrate the laser.

Updating firmware can identify the latest media and allow a good burn.

If you can identify your burner model, check for new firmware here.
