I just finished burning a 2-disk set of a TV series I downloaded at TV Torrents, 5 episodes each disk. I use Nero 9 and the first disk was okay (even though Nero said there might be problems) but the second didn't didn't burn because Nero said there wasn't enough room and I should use a DVD with larger capacity. That's when I thought DVD Shrink 3.2 would help by shrinking the files. The result was great and my menus work and play fine on my PC using Windows Media Player 10, but when I try to play Disk 2 in my DVD players, there are problems. My Magnavox DVD Recorder won't show the menu, but I can still navigate the first 4 episodes using the player's display button, but not the 5th episode. The first disk, which I burnt using Nero and didn't have to shrink, work just fine in the DVD players. Am I missing some trick in using DVD Shrink?
That is because your computer has a better reader than the player. Try getting a copy of FixVTS that will improve the readability of your finished product.
Mez, that's very interesting, I'll have to try it. Could it actually fix the disk that doesn't work in my DVD?
In fact, I did burn another disk from the files DVD Shrink created and that one did work in my DVD. You see, the first disk was the same one that was in my burner when Nero 9 said there wasn't enough space. I'm wondering if Nero attempting to burn it might have somehow damaged it, but then it did play in my computer.
The quality of the burn has many issues. Burn too slow the dots are blurred, burn too fast the dots are too light, even the best the media is not consistant, you might have had a bad spot.
Your DVD is read only you can't fix them. No what fixVTS does is when you run it on the files not the ISO it will make sure each frame has a to and from reference. For some reason, that makes it much easier to read. I can take a new disk not readable by my DVD player make a copy that plays in that same player without skips. Without that process the burned disk is always much worse. I would never use Nero to burn. That is another factor against you. You will need an altered Shrink that uses Imgburn. Imgburn it the best burn software you can use. It is much more careful; Nero is a quick and dirty job. I think you can find it both on AD. I suggest you get this utilities and archive them because they are pure gold! Imgburn is very legal unlike its predissor DVDdecrypter. These powerful tools are being picked off like Ripit4me. That is an amazing utility. Too bad I lost the installation exe for that baby.
One last great tip. In Shrink preferences, set the size. Set the size to custom 4400 mbs. You disks don't ruin as easily because there is a tiny band on unprocessed disk at the edge. It is the edges that get nicked. You can see if the disk has been burned. When it is completely burned sometimes it is hard to tell. Every now and then that is REAL useful. It requires DVDdecrypter another very old utility.
