Okay, I've gotten decently good at this whole ripping thing. However, a little snag has arisen.

I recently got TMPGENC DVD Authoring Works 4. Most of the DVDs in my library, I can rip the contents easily without any hassles. Some of them have caused problems though. I typically use either DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink, and they break the rippable content up by chapters.

Some of my DVDs though are simply just one huge condensed chapter, and when I use the start/end frame option, it does something weird to the file when I open it the VLC media player or Authoring Works 4. Typically, the .VOB file reflects the time of the file (ex 24:09); however, if I use the start/end option on condensed chapters it shows up like :34 seconds for a 20 minute match. Then it won't work properly in Authoring Works.
The problem even exists while in IFO mode for Decrypter.

Any suggestions or ways to avoid this irritating problem?
I am hoping there is a way around it, but if there isn't...break me the bad news :(

Thank you for any help,

Sean M. Kelly

DvdFab HD Decrypter is an up to date ripper.

Use it, then use DVD Shrink on the ripped files.

When Attar said up to date, which it is, but Shrink stopped updating maybe 7 yrs ago and DVD Decrypter stopped 6 months to a year before that. So they are really out of date. One other thing is the surface should be clean with as few scratches as possible. Sometimes very scratched but not deeply, copy fine while others have one small scratch that makes it difficult to copy. Lastly and worst of all are bad pressings. The DVD has foil that is stamped with the image. When the stamp is new, the pressings are clear and easy to play and copy. When the stamp is old the image on the foil is not as clear making it harder to play and copy. Some DVD readers are better than others when it comes to reading bad disks. Sometimes taking the DVD out and trying it again helps. That is about all you can do now. At one time there were other utilities that did better with bad pressings but you can't even down load them anymore.

It is great to rip your library and archive the masters. I always hated those menus.

Last (german) Shrink release: May, 31 2005. Still together with DVDFab it's up to the task.
