1. Size of the disc
2. Copy protection used
3. Quality of the source material
4. Speed of the computer
5. Background tasks running (were you indexing or running a virus scan last night)
You have missed or misunderstood the importance of several things that could have contributed to the length of time to process.
I do not use DVD shrink so I cannot speak to what it should've taken, but I know that 50 min. at 8X to burn a disc usually means that background tasks or I/O were running and busied out I/O.
Not quite sure what the overall size was,(it didn't show any red bars though) Who knows what copy protection was utilized, Source material - The original looks great,
Computer size is 1.6GHz 1GB RAM -- I don't run ANYTHING else on this computer when backing up,
