After DVD Shrink 3.2 finishes shrinking, it asks me to insert blank media to burn a copy. How do I turn this off if I simply want to shrink the DVD top my hard drive and have the computer shut off automatically when it is done shrinking?

In DVD Shrink select Edit -> Preferences...

Then you will see a selection of tabs. Select File I/O. You will see a selection at the bottom that says: Enable Burning With Nero. Make sure that selection is not checked.

This will NOT restart you computer after shrinking the file. I'm personally not aware of a way to do so. Now!! I would like to mention that it is not necessary to turn off you computer after using DVD Shrink.

I hope that info helps!!

Thank you, I appreciate the prompt reply. I was not looking to re-start the computer. Rather, I really like the ability to set it to shrinking then shut off the computer when it is done. That way, it can do its thing while I go to bed.

There is a big difference between transcoding and encoding. DVD Shrink is one of the best transcoders available, even if it is not updated any longer. Transcoding a movie with Shrink takes a maximum of 40 min. however most are done within 20 min. DVD Shrink does not have a batch option to do multiple DVD's.

Set your computer to go into standby mode after not being used for an hour. This is very similar to a complete shutdown, just remember that waking up a computer from standby mode takes a little time.

RobS44,
I'm sorry that I haven't used DVD Shrink in years and decided today to open a file to see what my options are. It appears that when you select backup you are given the option to shut down your machine after backup. I'm sure that the option holds true even if you are burning. You will see in the following illustrations.

1) Select backup and you will see the option that is called "Target Device". This is where you select what the target info is and how you select to save it. You may select to copy the ISO file to the HDD or to burn it to the DVD.

2) Look for the tab at the top called "Options". In this tab you may tell DVD Shrink to shut down the computer after it has completed. I must say that I've never used this option, but I'm sure that it will work. Here is a pic:

I hope that helps you with the original question that you asked. Good luck!
