I've been using DVD Shrink 3.2 to backup DVD files on an Iomega Prestige 1 Tb XHD. After making a hardcopy of the file, I go back to the XHD and delete the file to free up storage space. But while I rip all the files the same way, some files I am able to delete and some I am unable to delete. I get this message saying that I am not allowed to delete these files, when, in fact, this is my personal PC (so, there shouldn't be any Admin issues). I don't muck around with "Security" on these files when I rip them so I don't know how this problem is occurring. I tried changing parameters on the "Properties" of the file, like unchecking the "Read only" box, but nothing has helped.

So, I have accumulated files on my XHD that I really want to delete but can't. Any thoughts on how to delete these files?

Thanks for the help.

Dear Mod: If I need to post this somewhere else, please advise. Thanks.

Try something like unlocker or lockhunter

I don't know if they work on Win 7 or 64 bit machines.

Thanks, attar. I'll look into this.

I'm still not clear as to why some files get locked this way and some don't.

You might find that some process is holding on to them.
All I can suggest is running Task manager and Google any you don't know to see if that gives some insight.

I've only used Task Manager to stop a program that has been stalled. At what point in the process of deleting files do I check Task Manager?

At the point where the file is not being deleted.

OK, so when I tried to delete the problematic file like before, it deleted without any problems. Go figure. Maybe it thought I really meant it this time and went away.

Anyway, if it happens again, I will run Task Manager to find out the method to the madness. To be continued, I guess...

Thanks, attar

You Could Also Try To ReBoot, Then Try To Delete The File Again.
