Dear Anyone.

If this has been answered somewhere else, and I have looked on the site, it's just I'm too un-knowledgeable to know what I'm looking for!

Right. I downloaded a public domain film. I wanted to put it on a DVD to watch on my TV. The piece of software I found on Brothersoft converted it from an AVI to a VOB. I now need something to chop the VOB up into proper DVD format (with the empty sound folder and everything - OK, if it can get the Vob-to-DVD bit right I can set up an empty sound folder myself....just....!!

How do I do this?

Yours hopefully

If you still have the AVI, load it into FAVC or DVD Flick and author a DVD (and optionally burn it).
Remember to set the output to PAL (EU or Austrasia) or NTSC (North America).

Thank you very much - I must confess I hadn't heard of either of those programs! They're very good, aren't they.

Since you have converted your avi to vob, I suggest you use Womble EasyDVD to author and burn your DVD from the vob file. This program will import your vob, author and burn your DVD disc without re-encoding. So your video quality will stay exactly the same as it is in your vob format and you will also get a faster export speed. I just used this program to put my 3 short DVDs to a single DVDs, the video quality remains untouched.

PS. Don't use DVD Flick to author DVD from vob files, it will re-encode your movie all over again.

Dear Greg10

Just discovered that about DVD Flick on this VOB!! It does indeed re-encode the whole thing and takes forever doing so (at least on my non-quad-core comp.)

I did it because another user had told me to before you came along.

I'll find Womble Easy DVD - never heard of that one in my life. Sounds good!

Thanks for your advice. Very touched you took the time to reply.

Yours respectfully

No reason to pay for any software...

DVD Flick , and ANY OTHER software will re-encode if the source is not DVD compliant. If it is, then it can be copied.

.
Besides DVD Flick you can also use DVD Styler, or DVD Author, without re-encoding,and free as well. Paying for any other software is nuisance...however, to each his own...

EDIT: I think DVD Author IS incorporated in DVD Flick, so scratch that as an alternative option...

Piss me off, and I Will ignore You!
