Custom intro scene for DVD video

Hi,

I am interested in making a short customized introduction clip with some animated text and a background, this clip would be used as an intro for a DVD movie (starts before the DVD switches to the title selection menu).

I have searched for a program to do this. but I haven't come across one yet which allows me to make a custom intro, can anyone give me some suggestions on which program to use or how to go about doing this task?

VirtualDub, an image file and the logo filter can create an animated short.

FAVC or DVD flick to convert it to DVD format.

PgcEdit to insert the new title before the menu appears.

Hi,

I have made my DVD in VSO's ConvertX to DVD V4. I have got the image file of my DVD in an ISO format. Used the given link to download and install PgcEdit.

Now I'm a bit confused as I don't how to do what I want. I've got my intro video prepared in an XVID file format, can you please give me some instructions how to add the XVID video to start as an unskipable intro video for my DVD which plays before the main menu.

Start by converting the AVI to DVD format.
You can use ConvertX - the short DVD should have no menu and be output to a folder (not an .iso image file).

PgcEdit can only open an .iSO image file if its mounted on a virtual Drive.
If this is not convenient, the .ISO can be opened in DVD Shrink (File > Open Disc Image) then click 'Backup' and save to a folder.

I've got two video encoding programs and none of them allow me to encode a video into a DVD VOB file.

It just encodes them into a "DVD Standard" file; see the log file for more info;

Use a copy of your main title (the one with the menu) as the working file.

Run PgcEdit.

Top menu, click 'File' > 'Open DVD' and load the main title from the working file copy.

Optionally, on top menu, click 'Trace' and check 'Trace Mode'.

Top menu, click 'Title' > 'Import First play (startup) Clip'

Choose 'Don't pause:it's an animated clip', 'Continue' and load the short .

Before saving, click 'Run' on the bottom of the screen to run the trace.

The first play clip should run then continue to the main title menu.

Save the DVD (top menu 'File' > 'Save DVD).

I've highlighted the main points.

Hi, thanks for the prompt reply, everythings good with your reply, just need to convert my video to VTS IFO format, any ideas on which program to use? because I can't do so with the video encoding programs that i've got.

In the past, ConvertX certainly had the option of saving the output to a file folder and I think TmpGenc was the same - but I don't have these programs, so can no longer be sure..

That to one side, the file you have listed can be authored into DVD format using DVD Flick.
Since it looks like it is DVD compliant as to resolution, you can go into 'Project Settings' > 'Video' 'Target Format' and select PAL then 'Advanced' and check 'Copy MPEG-2 Streams'.
There is a simple Guide included with the program.
In this case you don't need a menu or create an ISO file.

FAVC is similar to DVD Flick.

Downloaded and converted video in DVD Flick, now I've got 5 files. Which one do I move to my DVD working folder to use the PgcEdit?

VIDEO_TS (IFO)
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0 (IFO)
VTS_01_1 (VOB)

When copying over to the working folder, what shall I re-name the file to?

Yes, the DVD that you just created is going to be the 'first play' item, correct? - leave it as is, where it is.

The DVD that is your main title (the one with the menu) is the one that is going to be modified by PgcEdit - thus, that is the folder that should be copied to a convenient location as your working folder..just so the original is safe.

Apart from the original, you should have two DVD folders to work with (your main title that will be modified and the short title)and each of these folders should contain a 'VIDEO_TS' folder containing VOB, IFO and BUP files.
